Visit Loudoun: Holmes Tasting
Mark your calendars for May 1st! Holmes Wine is taking over the tasting bar at the Visit Loudoun Center in Leesburg, and we’re bringing all of our currently released cuvées with us.
As part of the First Friday series—where a different local winery is featured each month—we’ll be pouring favorites like Blend 1 and Mimi, along with an exciting first taste of our brand-new 2024 vintage. It’s the perfect chance to sip something you love, discover something new, and celebrate Loudoun’s vibrant wine community.

Soil Series III: Clay
Join us this July as we expand our acclaimed Soil Series with an immersive exploration of clay-driven terroir. In this thoughtfully curated tasting, we turn our focus to predominantly clay soils and the profound influence they have on a wine’s structure, aromatics, and depth of flavor.
Experience six distinctive wines, each selected to showcase the expressive power of clay, paired with artisanal cheeses and charcuterie.

New Zealand Tasting
Though it’s rarely grouped alongside the classic island wine regions, New Zealand is, in fact, one of the world’s most captivating island wine cultures. This tasting invites you to journey to this remote landscape and discover the remarkable depth and diversity of its wines.
We’ll look well beyond the country’s iconic Sauvignon Blanc, exploring the character and nuance emerging from regions such as Hawke's Bay on the North Island and Central Otago on the South Island—moving between islands to experience the contrast in climate, terroir, and style.
Enjoy six distinctive wines, each thoughtfully selected to showcase New Zealand’s exceptional quality and sense of place, paired with artisanal cheeses and charcuterie.

Island Series III: The Italian Islands
For the final installment of our Island Series this year, we bring together three of Italy’s most captivating islands: Sardinia, Sicily, and Ischia.
Join us as we explore the distinct character and nuances of each region, discovering what sets these island wines apart. From the expressive volcanic wines of Sicily and Ischia to the vibrant Vermentinos and bold Cannonau of Sardinia, this tasting will highlight the remarkable diversity shaped by sea, sun, and soil.
The afternoon will feature six wines, along with a seventh selection presented blind for an added element of intrigue and discovery.
To complement the wines, we will offer a selection of artisanal charcuterie and cheeses, followed by a coffee and tea bar to conclude the experience — a warm and thoughtful send-off for your travels home.
We look forward to raising a glass with you as we celebrate the islands of Italy.

In this tasting, we turn our attention to wines shaped by slate soils. Found across the globe — and yes, even here in Virginia, though often interwoven with other substrates — slate imparts a distinctive character to the wines it nurtures. You may know these soils by other names, such as schist or llicorella. Together, we will explore what makes slate so compelling and why the wines born from it are so captivating.
The afternoon will feature six thoughtfully selected wines, along with a seventh presented blind for an added element of intrigue and discovery.
To complement the wines, we will offer a selection of artisanal charcuterie and cheeses, followed by a coffee and tea bar to conclude the experience — a warm and gracious send-off for your travels home.
Canary Island Tasting
Kick off the year with a journey far beyond the familiar. This tasting launches our exploration of island terroirs, beginning with the striking wines of the Canary Islands.

Wine is one of the rare beverages that represents the sense of place. The French said it best with the word terrior, which is now synonymous with wine. When you hear terrior driven wines, you expect there to be nuance, complexity, and familiarity to the region it comes from. The best examples highlight the importance of the vineyard sites and the hallowed ground it is grow on.
In this series, we will be exploring wines that grow on different soil types. This edition, we will be tasting through wines with vineyards located on chalk, whether it be top or sub soil, and what better region to taste chalk than in Champagne. It also gives us an excuse to drink Champagne!
Visit Loudoun Tasting
We are excited to partner with Visit Loudoun to taste our wines out! Every 1st Friday of the month, Visit Loudoun hosts a local artisan to showcase their work. This July, we will be showing our 2020 Mimi and 2021 Holmes Blend 1 to the Loudoun Community. Along with tasting our wines, you will be served an assortment of cheeses and breads. If you are tasting the wines for the first time or seeing how they are developing, stop by this July at the Visit Loudoun Visitors Center in Leesburg.

In this series, we will be exploring wines that grow on different soil types. In this edition, we will be tasting through wines with vineyards located on granite, whether it be top or sub soil. Gonçalo and I find that granite seems to provide a stoney freshness to the wine that only can be described as elegance (think Alsace or Nothern Rhone wines).
We will be tasting through 6 granite wines with, of course, the 6th being blind. There will also be light fare to snack on and coffee and tea to finish off the tasting.

We will be tasting our wines out again at the Virginia Wine Expo this March held in Richmond Virginia. We will be featuring our 2 blends: 2020 Mimi Cabernet Franc and 2021 Holmes Blend 1. Come visit us as well as other wine producers and artisans across Virginia.

Into the World of Madeira
Have you ever wonder what in the heck our founding fathers were drinking? Well it was Madeira, the other Portuguese fortified wine. Come join us this February and explore the island region famous throughout history, especially here in the United States (a toast was made with this wine for a little document called the Declaration of Independence). We will be serving 6 wines and small bites throughout the tasting. This tasting will have an intensive look at the island, the making, and its appearances in the hands of historical figures.
